Hello Lincoln Families,
Report cards went home on Friday. Please sign the envelope and have your child return it on Monday for yards! As mentioned in last week's blog, there may be an area(s) where your child still needs to meet the essential standard. The expected goal is to achieve the standards by the end of 4th grade with a "3". Students are provided extra practice and opportunities through small-group and individual interventions throughout the school year to help them master their goals. Thank you and have a great holiday break!

Reading: Letter to Families: Unit 1 Poetry; Unit 1 Performance Task
Module 2: Animal Mechanisms - Overview: Each module culminates in an activity where students synthesize their content and literacy knowledge across all three units in an authentic, often collaborative task that leads to high-quality work. Module 2-Innovator Performance Task: Publish and Present Your Animal Defense Narrative
This performance task provides students with an opportunity to integrate their research on animal defense mechanisms with narrative writing and publish their writing pieces for an audience. In this task, students use their research about a specific animal from Unit 2 and their narrative from Unit 3 as the basis for a published piece. The published piece features a cover page with the title of the narrative, an image of the animal accompanied by labels and a caption, a fact sheet, the narrative itself, and a list of sources. Students write their narrative during Unit 3 and revise their narrative for the end-of-unit assessment. After this assessment, students compile and publish work from the module. After students publish, they share their work by presenting their narrative. This task addresses CCSS ELA W.4.6, SL.4.4, and SL.4.5.
Performance Task Module 2 Animal Mechanisms
Math: Unit 3: Family Support Video. Students will take the Unit 3 test this week and then we will begin Unit 4.
4.3 Extending Operations to Fractions
20 lessons. Students learn that a fraction a/b is a product of a whole number 'a' and a unit fraction 1/b, or a/b = a × 1/b, and that n × a/b = (n × a)/b. Students learn to add and subtract fractions with like denominators, and to add and subtract tenths and hundredths.
Unit 4:
- Students read, write, and compare numbers in decimal notation. They also extend their understanding of place value to multi-digit whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000,000.
Science: The Birth of Rocks.
Social Studies: Democratic Values.
