Hello Lincoln Families,

If you haven't signed up for Student-Led Conferences, please click on this link.  Please encourage your child to complete their nightly reading for at least 20 minutes. We will continue to practice this routine through September. Starting the week of September 29th, if the reading is not completed, the time will need to be made up during lunch recess (20 minutes). Students can also earn yards for staying consistent with their nightly reading. Thank you for being so supportive!

NWEA ELA testing will begin next Tuesday, September 9th & 10th, in the morning starting at 9:00. NWEA math will be the following week on Wednesday, September 17th (which is a late-start) at 10:00. Please try to have your student in school on those days. Thank you for your help.

Have a fantastic week!

Snacks in the Classroom

Please ensure that everyday snacks are quick and easy for your child to handle. For example, please refrain from yogurt, pudding, uncut fruit, Doritos, Takis, or messy items as daily snacks. This avoids spilling on school devices, furniture, and carpet. Often, we have to eat a quick snack while working. These snacks work better in the lunchroom. Thank you for your understanding.

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! For students who would like to celebrate birthdays in our class, please bring in non-food items, such as pencils instead of cupcakes. Sometimes parents put together little gift bags. These are just ideas. There is no obligation to send anything!

In the Classroom:

Please ask your child what they are learning in our classroom!

Reading: Letter to Families: Unit 1 PoetryUnit 1 Performance Task

Math:  Unit 1 Family Support Video

In this section, students revisit the ideas of area and factors from grade 3 and encounter the concept of multiples. They begin by building rectangles given specific side lengths and identifying possible areas when only one side length is known. Students use tiles and diagrams to develop their understanding before learning new terminology.

Next, students build rectangles given a specific area. They see that the side lengths of the rectangles represent the factor pairs of the given area value. Students also observe the commutative property of multiplication when they see that rectangles with the same pair of side lengths have the same area, regardless of their orientation.
